Stress is a way of life for many of us. Stress leads to anger and eventually that anger will cause you to lash out at your loved ones. The pressure of everyday life can have damaging consequences if we are unable to let that stress go. If you don’t want to end up in a early grave then you need to learn some calming techniques. Here are some tips for calming down when it gets to be too much.
Exercise
There is no mistaking it. Exercise is one of the best ways to clear your mind and get that stress out. I used to hit the gym everyday after work before my son was born (so now I go a lot less than I should but even a few times a week is worth it.) Put all that energy into your workout and keep your demons at work. Your wife and children will notice.
Pressure Points
When I am really stressed my head will throb. My sinus issues don’t help either but lightly massaging my temples does give relief. The sides of your head are the most sensitive pressure points on your body. Massaging them will loosen the veins underneath and may help in giving you relief from a headache caused by stress.
Music
Blast your music in the car on the way home. Metal, BPM, Country, whatever floats your boat. Get your mind off of whatever is causing you to stress. Also, going back to exercise, motivate yourself with your headphones.
Focus On What You Have
Sometimes we forget how lucky we are. I am so blessed to have my wife and son and sometimes we dwell on what we don’t have. When you focus on what you don’t have, what you want, or what you wish you had, you are being selfish and not giving the right attention to your loved ones. At the end of the day, there are people right next to you that love you. And they will always love you regardless of the current circumstances.
Whatever is causing your stress, you can use these simple techniques to calm down. You need a way to allow that energy out in a productive way and that will allow you to lead a happy and loving life.
